Cape Reinga

Saturday was packed with loads of excitement. Today's destination was Cape Reigna, which is the northern most part of New Zealand. A lengthy bus ride took us to the lighthouse at this point. On the left is the Tasman Sea and on the right is the Pacific Ocean. The white crests are where the two bodies of water meet. There were tall cliffs leading down to the ocean as far as the eye could see.

After this life changing view, I drove to 90 Mile Beach. Fun fact: this beach is not actually 90 miles. The bus driver pulled up to massive sand dunes and began demonstrating how to sandboard. Basically, I had to hike up a dune and fly down on a board similar to a boogie board. It was a little scary at first because the drop was nearly verticle but the rush of going down was amazing! (Disclaimer: I did get a mouthful of sand). --- video tbd

I pranced around the beach a little more before heading on the bus to return to the Bay of Plenty which was where the rooming was. This first weekend in New Zealand will be hard to top.
