Rangitoto

Rangitoto is a volcano off the coast of Auckland. To get there, I had to take a bus, then a ferry. I went with the majority of the Loyola group and a few friends from New Zealand. The ferry over was beautiful! From the water, you can see all the surrounding islands and the Auckland skyline. Because it was a volcano, the black rocks just radiated heat. The hike itself wasn't too strenuous but the heat made it exhausting. It was totally worth it once we saw the view from the top.

There was a flat-roofed hut on the top, which we climbed on top of for an even better view. On the way down, we took a short detour to check out something called lava caves. The descent was much harder than going up. We all kept slipping on the gravel and kicking dust up. We got back on the ferry and had a nice relaxing boat ride back to the city. Each day I find something else that Auckland has to offer. This was one of my favorites.
