My friends were leaving on my birthday for a weekend trip, so we celebrated the night before (the 7th). I did not want the attention of a huge party, nor am I the type of person to seriously wear a tiara or a sash out to the bar... Instead, we had a low-key bbq. My friends spent all day cooking the most amazing meal ever. We had burgers, pasta salad, corn on the cob, and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (because I don't like cake). We ate at the picnic tables outside our building and it was the perfect way to celebrate.

Later that night, everyone met us out at the bar. Strangely, it is unpopular to go out on a Thursday in New Zealand, but it was better for us because we had the place to ourselves! It was fun to dance and tell everyone the good news -- that Kevin is coming to visit!!!

There was a countdown at midnight and I was finally 21!!!! Ironically in a place where the drinking age is 18. Dancing Queen was the first song to play on my actual birthday which made me laugh. It was such a fun night. Even though my friends from home and my family weren't here to celebrate with me, it is so amazing that these people I met two months ago did all of this for me!
