The economy in Indonesia is extremely bad (to get an idea, 1 American dollar is 13,320 Indonesian Rupiah)
One of the stops on the travel tour was a market. In a narrow street alley, there were probably 50 huts that were turned into shops. The colors and the patterns were beautiful. They sold everything -- from billowy pants, to jewelry, even wooden penises (yes, I giggled). It was really exciting to be in such a lively area that truly felt Balinese.
The excitement dwindled a bit when the store owners became aggressive. "Just browsing" is not really acceptable there. They pressured everyone to buy something. It was fun to sharpen by bartering skills and interact with locals. I think the severe heat impaired by bartering so I was at a slight disadvantage.
